  • Define entrepreneurship in simple terms. “Entrepreneurship is the ability and willingness to create, manage and drive a business enterprise to make a profit and bear the risk in it’.
  • Use examples the pupils can relate to, like someone starting a small business selling snacks or toys.
  • Write the definition on the board.

  • Explain that an entrepreneur is the person who starts the business or creates a new idea.
  • Use a simple sentence for the explanation.
  • Ask if they know someone who has started their own business (parents, neighbors, etc.).

Class Discussion: Explain the benefits of entrepreneurship. These are the positive outcomes or advantages that individuals and societies can gain from engaging in entrepreneurial activities. 

  • Entrepreneurs bring solutions to the problems and add value to humanity.
  • Entrepreneurs create new jobs, which help to reduce unemployment. 
  • Entrepreneurs help in nation-building.
  • Entrepreneurs also generate income for the government by paying their taxes.
  • Successful entrepreneurs give money to charity causes and support community projects. 
  1. Functions of an Entrepreneur:

Discussion: Explain the different functions of an entrepreneur such as;

  • Employment Generation: By establishing ventures, entrepreneurs create job opportunities for themselves and others. 

Example: Where a group of entrepreneurs opens a new restaurant business in a community. This new business generates jobs for chefs, waitstaff, administrative assistants, customer service, and marketing personnel, contributing to the local economy.

  • Market Expansion: Entrepreneurs help expand markets by introducing new products or services or improving existing offerings.

Example: A local bakery may expand by selling its products online, offering nationwide delivery, or partnering with food delivery platforms like Uber, Glovo, etc.

  • Problem-Solving: Entrepreneurs help in finding solutions to challenges.

Example: You can get the best designer clothes online. Which saves you the stress of going to a physical store or market. 

 

Improvement of Standard of Living: By introducing innovative products and services, entrepreneurs can improve the standard of living of consumers.

Example: Entrepreneurs have pioneered technologies that created industries like smartphones, social media, and online retail.

Use an example of a small business (like craft making) to illustrate these functions.
